message salon embassy Réception ist seit Ende Mai 2024 geschlossen, das Haus an der Köchlistrasse wird nun abgerissen. message salon ist ohne neuen Ort und macht vorerst einmal Pause. 

"Artist in Hotel Residence“ 
Esther Eppstein trifft man diesen Sommer trotzdem in der Stadt, unterwegs mit Künstlerinnen und Künstlern des Projektes "Artist in Hotel Residence“ im 25hours Hotel Langstrasse. 
Am Ende jeder Residenz laden wir jeweils ins Hotel zu einer öffentlichen Präsentation und Zusammenkunft im „Open Studio“. Es sind alle herzlichst eingeladen ins Atelier hereinzuspazieren, es gibt Apéro und Cheesecake!

message salon embassy Réception has been closed since the end of May 2024 and the building on Köchlistrasse is now being demolished. message salon is without a new location and is taking a break for the time being.

You can still meet Esther Eppstein in the city this summer, out and about with artists from the "Artist in Hotel Residence" project at the 25hours Hotel Langstrasse. At the end of each residency, we invite you to the hotel for a public presentation and meeting in the "Open Studio". Everyone is cordially invited to walk into the studio, there will be apéro and cheesecake! I look forward to seeing you at the hotel! Esther Eppstein

Artist in Hotel Residence — An art project at the 25hours Hotel Langstrasse, Zurich

"Since the opening of the 25hours Hotel Langstrasse in 2017, I have been conceptualizing the artist residence project for the hotel, drawing on an international network of artist friendships. This year, I have invited local artists and curators to collaborate, thereby integrating the artist residence even more closely with the Zurich art scene.
The invited artists cherish this retreat, enabling them to focus on their work in the hotel's artist studio. A hotel is a metaphor for a small-scale artificial world, an intersection of arrival and departure. People from different backgrounds work here or just pass through, meeting in the elevator, at the bar, or at the breakfast buffet. The artists observe, comment, reflect. Their presence on site, in the studio, is their actual artistic contribution. The artworks that emerge from it become a part of the legacy preserved in the hotel’s collection, tell of the artists’ presence and instil a moment of reflection into the bustle and transience of hotel life.“

„We have decided to invite Konstantin Leitner for the Artist in Hotel Residence because of his unique approach to context-specificity. We believe that his space- and convention-shifting practice may intervene in a poetic and humorous way with the hotel-framework in the middle of the most expensive city of the world. Leitners works have a notion of deception and mystery - they radiate a sense of multistability. We love the idea of the Artist in Hotel Residence program because it allows young talents from abroad to engage with the local scene but doing so over the hotel as a mediator – a mediator that is not encapsulated in the art-bubble but whose relation to art has to be negotiated and always stays in motion.“ Sophie Nadler and Etienne Eisele

"The hotel residence allows our young gallery to work on a joint exhibition project with the two Parisian artists Louis Lanne and Rose Ras outside of the usual exhibition business. In Zurich, they can create something completely new. Thanks to the generous situation in the hotel, artists can be invited to the expensive city of Zurich without large budgets, which is extremely valuable and unique for us. Zurich is unbeatable in summer: the water, the summery openness, we will show Louis and Rose this Zurich and connect them with the local art scene." David Iselin, owner of Modern Animals Gallery

"The artist residence in the hotel is a great thing, with a well-equipped studio overlooking the tracks and the station district. Olga Kundina is a member of the New Barbizon artist group in Israel, and I am also part of the group as a 'distant member' in Zurich. Except for Olga, all the painters from New Barbizon have already been artists in residence at the 25hours Hotel Langstrasse, and their paintings are exhibited in the hotel. We all paint figuratively, but each of us has our own unique style. We are interested in what happens around us, the immediate reality: people, architecture, street life. Olga and I will be out and about in Zurich together, painting and drawing. With Olga, I will rediscover my city in this way." Maria Pomiansky

In collaboration with message salon embassy, Zurich 

"Artist in Hotel Residence is also a wonderful opportunity for me to cultivate long-standing international artist friendships. In 2012, the Welsh artist Steven Emmanuel was invited by message salon to hold a solo exhibition at the legendary Perla-Mode art space on Langstrasse. Steven's current residency at the hotel on Europaallee will be an encounter with a transformed Langstrasse district. The destinations of our excursions will include the Kunsthaus and the galleries on Rämistrasse, and later we will talk about urban development, the art market and life as an artist in challenging times over a cup of tea in the studio."
