Das Künstleratelier im Hotel ist bewegliche Skulptur und Gedankenraum. Es entstehen schnell gefertigte "Studio Posters" mit poetischen Slogans – melancholisch aggressive (Selbst-)Betrachtungen und Geistesblitze aus dem alltäglichen Studio Leben des Künstlers. Die fortlaufende Serie "A quiet sculptural proposition for something not yet understood but felt“ wird um ein weiteres Ding, ein mit Stiften malträtierten Lehmklotz aus dem Materialfundus des Künstlerateliers vor Ort erweitert. Und auch die Leiter setzt Akzente, Ad-hoc-Skulpturen mit Keilrahmen, Post-it und Klebeband spielen belustigt mit Ästhetik, Funktion und Bedeutung.

Artist in Hotel Residence ist eine wunderbare Möglichkeit für Madame l’Ambassadeur ihre langjährigen Künstlerfreundschaften zu pflegen. Der walisische Künstler Steven Emmanuel lebt seit vielen Jahren in Nürnberg, Deutschland. Er war 2012 von message salon zu einer Einzelausstellung in die Perla-Mode an der Langstrasse eingeladen worden.

The hotel guest has turned the studio into his playground and performs philosophical gymnastics in small exercises here every day.

The artist's studio in the hotel is a mobile sculpture and thought space. Quickly produced ‘studio posters’ with poetic slogans are created - melancholically aggressive (self)-reflections and flashes of inspiration from the artist's everyday studio life. The ongoing series ‘A quiet sculptural proposition for something not yet understood but felt’ is extended by another object, a pencil-maltreated block of clay from the material pool of the artist's studio on site. And the ladder also sets accents, ad-hoc sculptures with stretcher frames, post-it notes and adhesive tape play with aesthetics, function and meaning in an amusing way.

The Welsh artist Steven Emmanuel has lived in Nuremberg, Germany for many years. He was invited by message salon to hold a solo exhibition at Perla-Mode on Langstrasse in 2012.

Artist in Hotel Residence — An art project at the 25hours Hotel Langstrasse, Zurich

"Since the opening of the 25hours Hotel Langstrasse in 2017, I have been conceptualizing the artist residence project for the hotel, drawing on an international network of artist friendships. This year, I have invited local artists and curators to collaborate, thereby integrating the artist residence even more closely with the Zurich art scene.
The invited artists cherish this retreat, enabling them to focus on their work in the hotel's artist studio. A hotel is a metaphor for a small-scale artificial world, an intersection of arrival and departure. People from different backgrounds work here or just pass through, meeting in the elevator, at the bar, or at the breakfast buffet. The artists observe, comment, reflect. Their presence on site, in the studio, is their actual artistic contribution. The artworks that emerge from it become a part of the legacy preserved in the hotel’s collection, tell of the artists’ presence and instil a moment of reflection into the bustle and transience of hotel life.“

Steven's current residency at the hotel on Europaallee will be an encounter with a transformed Langstrasse district. The destinations of our excursions will include the Kunsthaus and the galleries on Rämistrasse, and later we will talk about urban development, the art market and life as an artist in challenging times over a cup of tea in the studio."
